In recent days, we have been impacted by different crimes of a racist nature, which are happening in Brazil, USA and other parts of the world. Unfortunately, these events do not represent a specific moment in our history—for centuries this has been the reality of black populations. The difference is that now everything is filmed and transmitted in real time.
We have been moved by several stories and we need to understand what we can do differently and what is our responsibility in this environment. Therefore, I want to make an invitation: let's not get used to this reality! Let's take a stand against it.
Not being racist is not enough. We must be anti-racists! You don't have to be black to fight racism.
At Votorantim Cimentos, we do not tolerate discrimination or prejudice of any kind, whether of race, religion, age group, biological sex, political conviction, nationality, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, physical condition or any others. We hold respect for people as an unconditional value and condemn any behavior that is not in line with our Code of Conduct.
Remember that you are not alone. If you feel disrespected in your work environment, you can always resort to our Ethic Line. Reports of violations -- effective or suspected -- of our Code of Conduct can be made by internal and external audiences without fear of retaliation, to a member of our leadership, to our Business Ethics Agents (professionals who are trained to handle cases of this nature), the Business Ethics Office or the Ethics Line, which is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, via phone or website, in all countries where we operate, and can be accessed anonymously.
We are counting on you to transform VC and our society into a more respectful, humane and inclusive place.
