We, at Votorantim Cimentos, as leaders of the cement industry in Brazil and with a presence in ten other countries on five continents, are carrying out several initiatives to align our CO2 emission reduction targets with the goal of the Paris Agreement of limiting global warming to below 1.5°C compared to pre-industrial levels.
We are proud to be the only Brazilian company to take part of the 2050 Cement and Concrete Industry Roadmap for Net Zero Concrete, an initiative launched by the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA)—of which we are one of the founding members—and presented at COP26, held in Glasgow, Scotland. The Roadmap is part of an effort by the world's largest cement and concrete companies to accelerate the transition to green concrete, through a 25% reduction in CO2 emissions by 2030, toward carbon neutral concrete by 2050. The path to this goal includes the implementation of initiatives such as reducing the amount of clinker used in cement, reducing the use of fossil fuels in production, accelerating product innovation and investing in process efficiency and in the development of innovative technologies, including carbon capture.
Concrete and cement have shaped the evolution of our society. They are part of our daily lives and are vital to promoting human development and meeting the growing need for housing, sanitation, quality of life and infrastructure around the world. We know that our journey is bold and challenging, but we are focused on our objective and will continue to work together with other companies, partners and stakeholders to build a better planet for current and future generations.
